Nuestro nuevo presidente al respecto del accidente en San Andres: "La verdad, es que Dios esta de nuestro lado, es un milagro que no solo es obra de Dios sino que contó con la ayuda de muchos colombianos que colaboraron para que este accidente no fuera una verdadera tragedia". Que huevonada! Dios esta a nuestro lado? Donde estaba dicho Dios cuando paso el accidente? O me quiere decir que, como "solo" hubo heridos, fue intervención divina y un milagro? En ese caso, como dios omnipotente, porque no hizo todo lo posible para que no le pasara nada a nadie incluido el pasajero que murió? Eso si seria un milagro. Yo por mi parte le doy gracias a todos los que realmente ayudaron en el rescate y no a un espejismo de hace 2000 años.

27 May 10 - 19:27Schlechte Impf-Moral verhindert ein Ausrotten der Masern

Heute bin ich auf ein Artikel in den Stuttgarter Nachrichten gestoßen. Dort wird der Zustand der schlechten Impf-Moral in Deutschland von Ärzten bemängelt, was nachweislich auch der Fall ist. Aber ab Mitte des Artikels wechselt der Ton zu einem Impf-Gegnerischen. Dort wird Herr Thomas Bezler zitiert, der laut seiner eigenen Homepage "Heilpraktiker, Dipl. Gewerbelehrer, diplomierter Sportlehrer (Uni Stuttgart), Gesundheits- und Ernährungsberater, Anti-Stress-Trainer" ist. Ich möchte hier wirklich nicht ein ad hominem Argument aufstellen, sondern Sie darauf aufmerksam machen, dass die Stuttgarter Nachrichten 50% des Artikels einem "Experten" gewidmet haben, der weder Arzt, Virologe, Wissenschaftler noch Statistiker ist.

Mein Vorschlag: Wenn Sie sich über Impfungen schlau machen wollen, fragen Sie im ersten Schritt ihren Kinderarzt, der hat mit diesem Thema wirklich täglich zu tun. Oft reicht es aber einfach Oma oder Opa zu fragen wie es denn war, damals, als es die Impfung für Kinderlähmung noch nicht gab. Die Generation kann sich noch gut erinnern was es hieß an Polio zu erkranken oder nach Mumps nicht mehr hören zu können. Ein paar "schöne" Bilder sind auch in diesem Artikel zu sehen (Polio, Mumps, Röteln).

Ich verstehe auch nicht wo Herr Bezler seine "Statistiken" her hat. Eine einfache Suche im Internet bei ernst zu nehmenden Quellen ergibt:

Mumps ist heutzutage die häufigste Ursache für Schwerhörigkeit bei Kindern
Röteln können bei jedem 5.000 Jugendlichen das Nervensystem angreifen

Herr Bezler meint auch Polio wäre "verschwunden", was nicht stimmt. Das können Sie sogar in der Wikipedia nachlesen oder noch besser direkt beim Robert Koch-Institut. In Deutschland haben wir seit vielen Jahren keine Fälle, dass liegt aber an den Impfungen, nicht an neuen Definitionen der Erkrankung, wie es Herr Bezeler behauptet. Wenn die Impfrate nur niedrig genug ist, werden wir sehr schnell wieder Polio aus anderen Ländern importieren. Wie schnell geht das, fragen Sie? Heutzutage sind alle Länder mittels internationalen Flughäfen verbunden, Polio könnte so auch schon morgen Ihr Kind befallen. Schauen Sie sich mal die Bilder in diesen Ländern an, so könnte auch Ihr Kind bald aussehen.

Vergessen Sie bitte auch nicht, dass viele, gerade ältere Menschen oder Kinder mit schweren Erkrankungen wie Krebs oder AIDS einfach nicht geimpft werden können. Wenn Sie also Ihre Kinder nicht Impfen und diese dann erkranken, können Sie damit zur Lebensgefahr für andere Menschen werden. Moralisch sind Sie dann in einer großen Zwickmühle, denn Ihr gesundes Kind kommt vielleicht mit Masern ohne Impfung zurecht, aber indirekt haben Sie den Tod eines weiteren Menschen durch Unterlassung verursacht. Wenn Ihnen dieses Argument nicht reicht, dann stellen Sie sich die Frage: Wenn mein Kind Krebs hätte, würde ich mir nicht wünschen, dass alle anderen Kinder geimpft sind? Oder denken Sie an sich selbst, wenn sie mal alt und Krank sind, wollen sie wirklich von ungeimpften Enkeln besucht werden?

I love documentaries. I try to record as many as I can for those rainy / sick days. But selecting them all manually would be a tedious task. Thats why I use a custom recording rule in MythTV. This is the code I use:

AND program.title NOT LIKE '%Gleis%' 
AND program.description NOT LIKE '%Tierdokumentation%'

The first parenthesis matches the description of all shows for the words that fairly often pinpoint to a documentation. The second parenthesis define the channels I know feature good documentaries. Lastly, after the parenthesis I define all the words that definitely point to something I do not want to record.

Ich bin der festen Überzeug, dass man Unternehmen am besten erzieht in dem man Ihnen das verwehrt wofür sie eigentlich gegründet wurden: Gewinn. In diesem Fall geht es um Steve Jobs, der es für nötig hält ein Patentpool zu gründen um gegen das offene und freie Videokomprimierungsverfahren Theora vorzugehen. Ich im Gegenzug sehe es nicht mehr für nötig die Produkte von Apple zu kaufen. Gerade erst vor kurzem hatte ich vor meiner Schwiegermutter einen iPad zu kaufen, dass ist jetzt vorbei. Alternativen gibt es ja reichlich.

06 May 10 - 19:11Defragment MythTV server runing XFS

I had been brought up with the impression, that you do not need to defragment a linux file system. In most cases this is true, but just by chance I read this article and have since changed my mind. I use XFS for both my hard drives that host MythTV recordings. I assume, that XFS can not guess the size of a recording and thus can not reserve that space on the hard drive in advance. This thus leads to higher fragmentation compared to just copying files from another source. My system had recordings that where cut into more than 5.000 chunks. By typing

xfs_bmap -v /var/lib/mythtv/recordings/*

you get a pretty good overview of how fragmented your MythTV recordings are. As a rule of thumb, the longer the list after the filename, the higher is your fragmentation. All you need to do to defragment your file system is type:

xfs_fsr

as root and wait two hours (default length). It will automatically defragment all your XFS file systems, no need to tell it what devices. To get six hours of defragmentation run:

xfs_fsr -t 21600

You should notice some improvements, especially when copying your files. If you want to know how fragmented your drive is just type:

xfs_db -r /dev/sdc1 -c frag
actual 94088, ideal 2790, fragmentation factor 97.03%

You see, my drive was 97% fragmented!

04 May 10 - 19:54Getting LIRC to comile with the packages from kernel-ppa

I have the bad habit of liking to try new features in all software I use. That also includes the Linux kernel. To get daily updated kernel packages for ubuntu, I use the packages from kernel-ppa. But I have run into the issue, that the kernel modules from the main LIRC package do not compile with these kernel packages. I searched for a solution and found it. It seems, that the autoconf.h file is not placed in the right directory by default. This means we need to make a copy in the right directory for it to work. The following is an example I used last night.

sudo cp /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.34-020634rc5-generic/include/generated/autoconf.h /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.34-020634rc5-generic/include/linux/autoconf.h

All you need to do is change "linux-headers-2.6.34-020634rc5-generic" to whatever kernel packages you downloaded from the kernel-ppa and the copied file should work for you.

Everytime I upgrade my system I end up having my cyrus IMAP server borked due to database upgrade problems. The latest was from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 that gave me the following error:

/etc/init.d/cyrus2.2: Database backends mismatch! You must manually
/etc/init.d/cyrus2.2: verify and update the Cyrus databases to the
/etc/init.d/cyrus2.2: new backends.
/etc/init.d/cyrus2.2: Please refer to /usr/share/doc/cyrus-common-2.2/README.Debian
/etc/init.d/cyrus2.2: for instructions.

To fix this I had to edit a bit fo my old instructions for SuSE. The next few steps should get your server working again.

cd /var/lib/cyrus
rm db/*
rm db.backup1/*
rm db.backup2/*
rm deliver.db
rm tls_sessions.db
sudo -u cyrus ctl_mboxlist -d > /tmp/mailboxes.txt
mv mailboxes.db mailboxes.db.old
cvt_cyrusdb /tmp/mailboxes.txt flat /var/lib/cyrus/mailboxes.db skiplist
rm /usr/lib/cyrus/cyrus-db-types.active
sudo chown -R cyrus:mail /var/lib/cyrus

I found out, that mythweb does not allow me to download the imported mythnettv files. This is due to the fact, that they have no file sufix (.avi etc). To make it work, just edit

/var/www/mythweb/modules/stream/stream_raw.pl

to include the following code in the section "# File type"

    elsif ($basename =~ /tmp/) {
$type   = 'video/avivideo';
$suffix = '.avi';
}

I am pretty sure not all files are realy "avi", but for all intendet purposes (downloading, playing) its fine with me.

Obwohl der Verfassungsschutz die Vorratsdatenspeicherung für Verfassungswidrig erklärt hat, möchte unsere Regierung (CDU/FDP) über die Hintertür doch alles was wir sagen und schreiben abspeichern. "Ist doch egal", mag man argumentieren, "ich habe ja nichts zu verbergen". Nur im Anschein, ich vermute aber, dass jeder was zu verbergen hat. Vor einigen Jahren war das in einigen Bundesländern anders und zwar bei den neuen Bundesländern. Dort wurde auch alles mitgeschrieben und dort hatten die Menschen angeblich auch nichts zu verbergen. Schon vergessen? Wer also das Risiko eingehen möchte, Deutschland in eine neue DDR umzuwandeln, muss nichts weiteres tun als die Klappe zu halten. Für alle, die der Ansicht sind, dass der Staat, der Arbeitgeber, der Nachbar in den eigenen Konversationen und Korrespondenzen nichts zu suchen haben, ist es jetzt Zeit die Abgeordneten anzuschreiben. Hier geht es sehr einfach. Diese Seite ermöglicht Ihnen in einem Rundschlag alle Beteiligten Ihre Meinung zu sagen.

Wie ich mich schon oft zu Wort gemeldet habe, geht mir die Zensierung durch so genannte Kinderpornografie-Schutzgesetze reichlich auf die Nerven. Nun hat es ein Richter in Australien geschafft Kurt James Milner wegen besitzt von Kinderpornografischen Comics zu verurteilen. Hier geht es nicht um Fotos/Videos, die von Kindern in sexuellen Situation geschossen wurden. Da verstehe ich ja die Empörung, es müsse ja "echte" Kinder geschützt. Hier geht es aber um gezeichnete Figuren, unter anderen von den Kindern der Comic Serie "Die Simpsons". Stellt sich hier keinem die Frage, ob damit auch zahlreiche Mangas als Kinderpornografie gelten? Sollte man sich jetzt nicht als Japaner auf den Weg nach Sidney sorgen machen, dass man nach Ankunft gleich mal ein paar Jahre weck gesperrt wird? Sind die Zeichner von "Die Simpsons" nicht selbst Kinderpornoersteller? Schauen Sie sich mal diesen Ausschnitt aus der Serie an! Achtung, Sie könnten Sich dadurch strafbar machen.

Mit solchen Gesetzten haben wir es in unserer Gesellschaft fast geschafft wieder Menschen nur für an etwas denken strafbar zu machen, geschweige denn dass man diese in Worte oder gemalte Bilder umsetzt. Wann wird in Australien das reden oder schreiben über Kinderpornografie verboten? Konsequent wäre es.

Sometimes I need to get a few changes from the MythTV SVN server, that did not make it into the sources provided by JYA. To acomplish this I use the following command:

svn diff -r 23237:23242 http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/trunk/mythtv/ > 23237:23242.diff

Just change the two numbers at the beginning to those revision you want to have a patch for.

Ich hatte mich schon vor einigen Monaten zum Thema Kinderpornografie Gesetze geäußert. Heute las ich, dass in Australien die Kunst zensiert wird um den neuen Kinderpornografie Gesetzen gerecht zu werden. Dabei bin ich auch aufmerksam geworden, dass in NY Kunstbilder zensiert wurden, weil sie angeblich als Kinderpornografie gelten (18.10.2008). Auch in Tate Modern Art Gallery wurden die Fotos von der jungen Brook Shields zensiert, da diese den britischen Kinderpornogesetzen widersprechen (01.10.2009). Ich möchte meine Leser darauf aufmerksam machen, dass sie sich auch in Deutschland auf Glatteis begeben, wenn sie nach den in den Artikeln beschriebenen Bildern in Google suchen! So weit geht nämlich unsere Informationsfreiheit nicht, außer sie sind Wissenschaftler, dann können sie ja nachweisen, dass sie sich aus Forschungszwecke für Kunst interessieren.

Maybe I have not mentioned it before, but I am a big Tim Minchin fan. One of his best performances is that of "Storm", a beat poem about his discussions with a lady who cheers for all new age, homeopathy, natural, organics pseudosciences. For a while now a cool team of creative people have been working on turning the Poem into a short film.
